About Us

Sirius Book Works publishing was created in 2004, as a consequence of Nabil Shaban's girlfriend, Marcela, asking
if there was a book of his poetry and artwork. When he replied "No, who would want to publish my stuff?", she replied "I would."

"Anyway, if you're an unknown like me," Nabil continued, "it is almost impossible to get poetry published. The poetry world
is such a closed-shop, full of culture snobs. Besides, my stuff is too scarey, too off the wall, too political…too bleak and dark.
Publishers today lack courage, are only interested in mass audiences and Big Brother and other trivial Celebs."

"So, let us form our own publishing company," Marcela suggested, "and we will get your work out to the people."

It seems we are following in a great tradition. All of the following at some time in their careers had to dabble in self-publishing:
Virginia Woolf, Horace Walpole, Balzac, Walt Whitman, Gertrude Stein, John Galsworthy, Rudyard Kipling, Beatrix Potter, Lord Byron,
Thomas Paine, Mark Twain, Upton Sinclair, Ezra Pound,D. H. Lawrence, Alexander Pope, James Joyce, Robbie Burns and Anais Nin
.
William Blake published all his work, handprinting his pages and good old Mrs Blake sewed on the covers.
